The theoretical approach underlying this practice is person-centred and based on Carl Rogers belief that individuals have an innate movement toward growth and achieving possibilities. This theory supports the Adaptive Information Processing model where a person's move toward psychological healing is analogous to healing from physical injury.
Each individual has their own blue print for living that can become confused within competing personal, familial and societal perspective, or due to traumatic experiences. This approach allows the individual the safety and space to explore their inherent possibilities, those factors stopping them from moving into these, and their own pathway toward constructive fulfilment of those needs, and toward self-actualisation.
